Head of Cross-KIC and NEFA Implementation (m/f/d) (Parental Leave Cover - 16 months)

Your responsibilities

As the Head of Cross-KIC and NEFA projects, you will steer the successful implementation of the Unit’s portfolio. This is made of 3 cross-community initiatives (Cross-KIC) and 11 externally funded projects (NEFA). Projects range from capacity building in innovation and entrepreneurship, fostering regional innovation, to enhancing innovation procurement and innovation adoption in the European healthcare system for a better health of patients and citizens.

This is a fixed-term parental leave cover position for an approximate period of 16 months, starting as soon as possible. You will report to the Director of Programmes and Delivery and you will interact with other units in said department. The position also requires alignment and synergic work with the Operations and Grant assurance teams, as well as Commercial. Occasional travel in Europe is foreseen.

Leadership and team management
  • Set up and steer the implementation of the Unit’s objectives, in line with the organisation’s goals.
  • Lead a multicultural team of 6 Cross-KIC and NEFA project managers and foster team building, as members mostly joined recently. Ensure effective internal communication and knowledge management. Conduct performance evaluations and support staff development.
  • Ensure the Unit works compliantly to the organisation’s policies and relevant EU financial regulations (e.g. privacy, procurement, financial management).
  • Report to and align with the Director of Programmes and Delivery and other senior management. Provide data, activity and financial reports. Communicate key developments, risks, and achievements.
  • Take part in events and coordination meetings with other KIC’s and NEFA consortia, especially within the EIT HEI Initiative.
Operational management
  • Oversee the successful implementation and closure of the Unit’s project portfolio.
  • Monitor performance indicators and ensure targets are met.
  • Ensure project changes and reporting are performed timely and in high quality.
  • Identify learnings and good practices in the set up and implementation of Cross-KIC and NEFA projects, opportunities for capitalising on the developed assets, potential for synergies with other units/departments (within Programmes and Delivery department, with Operations, Commercial).
  • Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.

Your skills & knowledge

  • Master degree in Business Administration, Economics, other Social sciences or discipline relevant to the job content
  • At least 5-year experience in managing complex, multistakeholder projects, ideally within the EU funding framework
  • At least 3 years in a leadership or management role
  • Sound knowledge of EU funding mechanisms (Horizon Europe, EIT funding)
  • Strategic thinking and planning
  • Financial and budget management
  • Analytical and reporting skills
  • Stakeholder and risk management
  • Strong communication skills (in English)
